This book hit so close to home. It opened up old wounds and made me face feelings I thought I had tucked away for good. It is about loss and grief. This book made me cry. This book is phenomenal.

This book teaches that anyone can experience grief or loss outside of death. I will be the first one to say death’s version of grief I know well and carry with me every single day. Also, grief does not look the same for everyone, and everyone does not grieve the same.

This book is all about vulnerability and revealing the pain, the very things I struggle with. I have a lot of hurt and anger that started when I was a child. My mother and my sister played a huge part in it. I have tried to discuss it, but it’s always the same response. Let it go, or get over it. Pretty soon, I began to drown. A chapter or chapters inside this book will touch you and relate to a period in your life or about someone you know. This book touches on how one event or tragedy can affect those involved. During the hard times, we only think about ourselves or the person who went through the traumatic event, but we never dive into how those around us might have been affected. That is what Dr. Trujillo touches on how everyone handles things, and it’s always different from how another person handles things.

You all know my reviews are journal entries, mainly when I review nonfiction. This book is for anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one, anyone who lost a job, anyone who lost a friendship or relationship outside of death, anyone who still struggles with things they thought they had healed from, or anyone who knows someone struggling.

Dr. Trujillo is a licensed counseling and sports psychologist who obtained her doctorate degree from Purdue University in Counseling Psychology in 2019, where she built specialties in grief/loss, self-injury, and addressing mental health needs and access to services with collegiate athletes. She completed her APA-accredited internship and post-doctoral study at the University of Northern Colorado, where she provided individual, group,
